Get Fresh, Buy Local—What’s in Season: Spring

Spring gradually inches its way forward, bud by bud, blossom by blossom, and bee by bee. Our steadfast and determined local farmers have been busy in their greenhouses and fields, preparing for a productive season ahead. With the arrival of longer days and warmer weather, our cravings for sunshine and a new crop of produce can finally be satiated.

As crisp lettuces, zesty microgreens, savory morels, slender asparagus, snappy peas, and bright rhubarb edge their way onto the market, you can “spring clean” your palate with these fresh flavors. Eating with the seasons will challenge and inspire the adventurous cook inside of you to find delicious ways to prepare rhubarb, garlic scapes, kohlrabi, and other unusual fleeting crops. Staying in-tune with what is available will give you a deep appreciation of these foods and their peak flavors in this present moment. Enjoy it while it lasts!

This spring, renew your commitment to local food by reconnecting with a local farmer – after the long winter, they’ll be just as happy to see you again as you are them.
