Looking for a getaway? Hermann Missouri may be just what you have been searching for. In just a little over three hours you can leave the hustle and bustle of the Kansas City metro area behind and travel to Missouri’s own wine country. Hermann’s Weinstrasse (German for “wine road”) meanders for 20 miles along the Missouri River between Hermann and New Haven. The trail is home to seven lovely family-owned wineries that can all be easily accessed by the Hermann Trolley Company. The trolley will pick you up at a number of hotels and B&Bs around Hermann and happily deliver you to the wineries around town. When your trip is over and it’s time to go back home, they will take you to the train station. Who needs a car when you can have everything you need or want without picking up your car keys?

The Berries and Barbecue event on July 27th and 28th is one that you won’t want to miss, with food and wine pairings at each of the seven wineries. Imagine yourself sipping a lovely glass of Rose’ while sampling Lamb Burgers with Pomegranate Sauce at Adam Putcha Winery, or savoring the Smoked Asian Chicken Sliders with Berries paired with Traminette at Robller Winery. If you enjoy a tour that offers more than just tasting great wine, the Grapes to Glass VIP wine tour and tasting at Stone Hill Winery is not to miss. A member of their winemaking staff will guide you on a tour of the Norton vineyard, cellars, tank building and press house. Plan ahead for this one – these monthly tours have a limited amount of space and require a reservation.

The food, the wine, it’s too much fun for one person. You will definitely want to share this experience with someone. This is just another reason why Hermann has become the perfect place for couples, groups, or a great girls’ getaway. Hermann was rated “Best Small City for Weekend Getaway” by AAA’s Best of the Midwest reader’s choice poll.

The picturesque town of Hermann itself has so much to offer; it’s not just the wine that will make you fall in love with this quaint village. The vibrant music scene, along with trails for walking and biking are also a favorite of visitors. The Katy Trail weaves through the Weinstrasse region where biking opens up a new and unexpected view of the rolling hills and shining rivers that make Hermann such a beautiful place. With over 300 guest rooms available at area B&Bs, farm stays, and hotels, you are sure to find the perfect lodging for your retreat. It’s worth the trip.
