Tracey Russell is the publisher and editor of Edible Kansas City.
Tracey is a native mid-westerner, born in South Central Illinois to parents with rural roots and an entrepreneurial spirit; she lived in Minnesota, Colorado and Iowa before settling on an 80 acre farm in Lawrence, Kansas with her family. Raising Angus cattle, tending llamas, harvesting hay and soybeans was a daily occurrence. She returned to the mid-west after traveling through the US and Europe over a decade ago, where she embraced the “buy the day's meals fresh from the market” lifestyle and the pure pleasure of eating and drinking at the table with friends. She returned to Kansas City with the idea to introduce the art and enjoyment of espresso and coffee preparation to the metro area by opening a retail coffee bar, modeled after existing European and west coast style establishments. Gardening, homesteading and self-sufficient living have been passions she continues to nurture and indulge in by growing much of her own food, keeping chickens and canning, on a quarter acre urban garden in her spare time. Today, she passionately embraces the opportunity to give another voice to the local food movement and connect everyone within it to the community they feed and serve, by bringing edible Kansas City home.
